when it gets dark, and the dash lights are supposed to turn on, the odometer light and the shifter position light goes dimmer. I should add that the manual headlights and parking lights dont work. (Do the outside lights turn on?) Have you tested the 10A fuse? If the dash lit up during that "danger" test but neither terminal is powered when the running lights are turned on, your issue is between the 2A socket and the relay, or between the relay and the 10A fuse. They may have burned out over time and nobody did anything as it gradually went dark. If they're all burned out then it could be as simple as replacing a bunch of bulbs. Also check each bulb by pulling the socket out and inspecting the contacts at the socket and IP. You might find a loose wire or a damaged foil trace on the flexible circuit film. Pull the IP and check the socket/plug for issues. If not then you have an issue between there and the IP. If the dash lights turn on then the wiring is sound. Obtain a 12V source (fused is okay, but be ready to replace that fuse!) and touch it to the unpowered terminal for the 2A fuse. Use a tester to find which of the 2 terminals is powered by the running lights. Pull the 2A fuse and then turn on the parking lights. If you are up for a little "danger" (this will be your choice) you can see if power will cause them to light or not. If they're dirty try inserting and removing a few times to clean them and the socket terminals. The 2A circuit supplies power to the instrument panel (IP). One will be about 10A and the other will be 2A. *Hold the gas pedal to the floor while you crank the engine. This will trigger the ecu to shut injector pulse off and that, plus the throttle blade being fully open, will allow additional air to enter the engine to help clear out the excess fuel & that should allow the engine to start. If your vehicle has a carbon canister, purge valve & vent valve for the EVAP system and the vent valve (on top of the fuel tank) is defective, allowing liquid fuel to be drawn into the canister then the engine, this will also cause an engine flood condition.A bad ect sensor can cause so much of a rich condition that the engine wont start.Press the gas pedal down 1/4-1/3 of the way during crank mode and if it starts, the ect sensor is bad. You'll find 2 fuses for the running or parking lights. Check out our guide on how to Diagnose Vehicle Problems Like a Pro.Ĭheck the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose to see if its wet with fuel or has the odor of fuel.If either condition is present, the fpr is bad.You should also check the regulator itself to see if fuel is steadily seeping out of the regulator vacuum port, with the vacuum hose disconnected from it while a assistant turns/cranks the engine with the key.The fpr is bad if fuel is coming out of that port.If the fpr is ok, check for a stuck open injector. If theres so much fuel getting dumped into the engine that raw fuel is making its way out of the tailpipes, its gonna flood the engine and prevent it from starting. When this condition occurs, use the following (clear flooded engine mode) procedure to see if the engine will start. Remove the cover, and underneath, you will see the fuses. To access the fuses under the rear seat, start by tilting the rear seat forward. The interior fuses are located under the rear seat on the driver’s side. 24 Instrument Panel Cluster, Driver Information Center.Remove the fuse box cover to access the fuses underneath. Open the hood and look on the driver’s side. The main fuse block is located in the engine bay.
